Ministry of National Development Committee of Supply 2025—cuts by Workers' Party Members of Parliament

Sir, there are three blocks with identical designs in my ward of Kaki Bukit Division of Aljunied GRC, namely Blks 528, 532, and 536 of Bedok North Street 3. Each of these blocks are 17 floors high with a total of 192 units served by two lift lobbies in each block.

Although these three blocks are identical in design, Blks 528 and 532 are served by a total of three lifts, whereas Blk 536 is only served by two lifts. Some residents of Blk 536 shared with me that there used to be three lifts serving the block until the Lift Upgrading Programme was carried out.

Sir, there are many elderly residents in Kaki Bukit, and Blk 536 is no exception. They are particularly reliant on lifts. They have concerns over the wait times for the lifts, and are confused why their block is seemingly deprived on one lift compared to the two other blocks of the same design. I therefore seek clarification from HDB on how it determines if a block has a sufficient number of lifts serving it, and, secondly, specifically for Blk 536 Bedok North St 3, why two lifts were deemed sufficient for this block.

I also seek HDB’s assistance in addressing the needs of the residents of Blk 536.
