Career and Education
Sufyan is a former Associate Director of a community-based law firm, specialising in areas including conveyancing, corporate law, estate, and family and other litigation matters. He has since resigned his position owing to the firm's non-partisan policy in order to contest the elections. During his time in legal practice, he has represented clients at various levels of court in Singapore and handles a diverse range of legal cases, including but not limited to, bankruptcies, sale of land and properties, probate, and adoption. Sufyan is committed to using his legal expertise to support the community and has volunteered for multiple legal clinics. Sufyan has also appeared on vernacular radio stations on his previous firm's behalf to discuss a variety of legal issues.
Involvement with the Workers’ Party
Since May 2024, Sufyan has been a regular Meet-People-Session case writer in the Kaki Bukit ward of Aljunied GRC. As a member of the policy team, he has contributed to analysing bills (e.g. Anti-Money Laundering Bill, Platform Workers Bill), and assisted with parliamentary work for the Budget 2025 and Committee of Supply debates. He has also been actively involved in house visits in the Punggol area.
Vision for Singapore
Sufyan envisions a more balanced political landscape in Singapore, where a functioning two-party system serves as an effective check on governance. He believes this political evolution is crucial for preserving Singapore's democratic institutions, fostering an active citizenry, and encouraging civil society to collaborate on solutions to the nation’s challenges.
Philosophy and Passions
Sufyan is convinced that a functioning, robust democracy requires an active and participatory citizenry, and a morally grounded leadership willing to embrace a diversity of viewpoints. He believes that it is the moral obligation of his generation to step up and be actively involved in charting this future for Singapore.
Sufyan is an avid history buff, and enjoys spending his free time exploring historical sights both at home and abroad. He fully appreciates the weight of history while on his travels as this provides him with a vital understanding of cultural, educational, political and economic legacies in these contemporary times.
