Involvement with the Workers’ Party

Michael has contributed to the Workers' Party of Singapore (WP) for over 15 years. His journey began with helping with House Visits (HV) during the 2011 General Election in East Coast. Since then, he has remained deeply involved in HV, policy work, parliamentary work, and Meet-the-People sessions. In recent years, he has primarily supported MP He Ting Ru in Sengkang GRC, where he has assisted with various grassroots and policy efforts.

Michael has been a committed volunteer with the Workers' Party since 2011 and has consistently stepped up in various capacities. He is taking the next step forward because of his deep love for Singapore and his desire to contribute to the nation’s political maturation.

Vision for Singapore

Michael was drawn to the Workers' Party for its methodical and constructive approach to building a loyal opposition in Singapore's political landscape. He believes that the long-term resilience of the political system depends on the success of opposition parties in providing meaningful checks on government policy. Michael observes that Singapore has become more progressive due to the WP’s influence on issues such as single-mother support, progressive wage models, low-income assistance, and housing for singles. He sees the need for more pressure on the legislative process to ensure that policies better reflect the aspirations of all Singaporeans.

Philosophy and Passions

Michael believes that a more balanced political system will lead to more balanced policymaking. To him, a healthier deliberative structure is needed to safeguard against complacency and policy groupthink – and to ensure that ordinary Singaporeans remain at the heart of all policy decisions.

Michael enjoys unwinding at live concerts and binging on the latest television series. You can also find him tending to his plants when the Singapore heat isn’t too unbearable.
