Involvement with the Workers’ Party
Jasper began volunteering with the Workers’ Party in Hougang after the 2020 General Election, assisting with Meet-the-People sessions. He served as Secretariat Assistant and Legislative Assistant to Hougang MP Dennis Tan from 2021 to 2024. Through this experience, his belief in the Workers’ Party's stance on a more balanced political system and a need for a shift in government policy grew.
Jasper initially helped out at the Meet-the-People’s Sessions in Hougang SMC as a way to give back to the community. His experiences working alongside the party during the COVID-19 period deepened his belief in the Workers’ Party’s commitment to being a loyal opposition. He supports the party’s goal of pushing the PAP to do better, fostering more robust democratic discussions, and helping elevate the political system as a whole.
Vision for Singapore
Jasper believes that Singapore needs a more balanced political system, one that encourages robust discussions and dialogue on government policies in Parliament. He wants policies that meet the needs of Singaporeans and provide greater opportunities for the next generation. The role of the loyal opposition, he asserts, is not only to challenge the ruling party during elections but also to push the PAP to improve, rethink their policies, listen to the public, and adopt alternative ideas. Such discourse leads to better policies and ultimately improves the lives of all Singaporeans.
As a father of three school-going children, Jasper can relate to the struggles of young families in Singapore. Having been an ex-teacher with the Ministry of Education, he also has a deep understanding of Singapore's education system.
Philosophy and Passions
Jasper envisions a Singapore where balance and fairness form the foundation of its political system. He believes in fostering a government that embraces diverse perspectives, making sure that policies uplift people from all backgrounds and walks of life. He dreams of a Singapore where his three young children can thrive, growing up in a nation that celebrates unity, opportunity, and pride in being Singaporean.
Jasper loves public transportation, especially trains! With a career focused on improving payment systems for public transport across Asia-Pacific, he enjoys taking train rides in every country he visits.
