He holds a Master of Science in International Political Economy from Nanyang Technological University, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California.

Involvement with the Workers’ Party

Gerald has been with the Workers’ Party for 16 years. He has held several key leadership roles in the Party, including as head of the Policy Research, Development, Technology and Media Teams.

He served as a Non-Constituency Member of Parliament from 2011 to 2015, and was elected as a Member of Parliament for Aljunied GRC in 2020.

In the 14th Parliament (2020-2025), Gerald advocated for fairer treatment of workers, stronger support for families facing cost-of-living pressures, and greater accountability in how public institutions serve Singaporeans. He highlighted gaps in social protections, the unequal impact of digitalisation, and the need for more deliberate planning for Singapore’s ageing population. He also contributed to debates on national security and foreign relations, including the implications of great power rivalry in the region. Across his parliamentary interventions, Gerald emphasised long-term thinking, grounded in core national values, and called for greater transparency and public understanding of major policy decisions.

Vision for Singapore

Gerald hopes to see a Singapore where people feel more assured about their future and that of their children. He believes too many Singaporeans today are overwhelmed by concerns about job security, rising costs, housing affordability, academic pressures and caregiving responsibilities. While these are real challenges, they should not be crushing burdens. Building a society where people can lead fulfilling lives with greater security and hope is crucial to strengthening Singapore’s social fabric and shared future.

Gerald believes it is in Singaporeans’ best interest to have a strong opposition party to provide checks and balances on the ruling party, and to present credible alternative proposals to take the country forward. He sees the Workers’ Party as best placed to fulfil this role and is committed to contributing to the Party’s growth for the benefit of all Singaporeans.

Philosophy and Passions

Gerald believes in solving problems by striving to understand issues thoroughly and work collaboratively to find practical solutions.  He applies this to policy issues as well as personal matters facing residents.  For him, seeing a problem resolved—no matter how big or small—brings deep satisfaction.

Gerald is passionate about sports and, in particular, the development of youth sporting talent.
