Background:

Glenda is the second child from a family of 4 girls. She graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1999, majoring in Economics and Japanese Studies. She founded “Ig’s Heaven”, a shop retailing in giftware and home ware, which took off and quickly expanded into a chain within 2 years.

In 2002, wanting to experience more out of life, she decided to sell “Ig’s Heaven” and then took off to travel and live in different countries before settling down in Paris, France, for the next 2 years, taking up various part-time jobs there. Her observations of the political scene in Paris first sparked off her interest in the governance of a country.

Returning to Singapore in 2004, Glenda set up a cocktail bar, “Les Chameaux”, at Robertson Quay. Inspired by the political and social activism she had observed in Paris, she then joined the Workers’ Party that same year and was elected as Deputy Secretary of the Party’s Youth Wing which was set up in 2005.

The following year, she contested her maiden General Elections in Ang Mo Kio GRC in which the team won 33.9% of the votes against the PAP team helmed by the Prime Minister.

In 2007, she sold off Les Chameaux and left for Hong Kong to take up a post there as a money broker. She is still based in Hong Kong and has also established her own line of body care products, Baan, which are currently distributed both in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Philosophy:

Glenda believes that anyone can participate in Singapore’s politics and people should not be contained by a cloud of fear. As an entrepreneur herself, Glenda understands the issues and difficulties faced by businesses in Singapore. She hopes to contribute and make a difference in this fast growing political environment whether through her thoughts, actions or words.
